Great Directors: Federico Fellini

Ruth Sokolof Apr 1 – Jun 16, 2011

Fellini — the name itself is practically synonymous with foreign films, and whether you’ve seen all of his films or not a one (yet!), his place in our vocabulary speaks volumes of his legendary career and towering influence over the art form. In an era when directors, especially in Europe, were treated like royalty, nothing was as exciting culturally as the release of a new Fellini picture. With this series, we relive that time — presenting ten of Fellini’s greatest films, a documentary about his life and career (FELLINI: I’M A BORN LIAR), and another landmark of Italian cinema (Roberto Rossellini’s ROME, OPEN CITY) co-written by a young screenwriter who would go on to collect a staggering thirteen Academy Award nominations over the course of his career before finally taking home one of the most deserved Lifetime Achievement Awards in Oscar history.
