Forever Young Family & Children's Series Summer 2017

Ruth Sokolof Jul 1 – Aug 31, 2017

The series launches July 1 with an essential movie theater experience, THE WIZARD OF OZ. The story of a Kansas girl trapped somewhere over the rainbow has been dazzling audiences with Technicolor spectacles and unforgettable songs for nearly 80 years. Next, it’s another hero’s journey and another kind of rite of passage. Many 80s kids remember THE LAND BEFORE TIME as the first film that frightened, thrilled, and moved them to tears. The story of Little Foot, a brave brontosaurus, and his rag-tag band of orphaned dinosaurs starts July 15.

Mid-series, it’s a celebration of 20 years of Harry Potter. J.K. Rowling published the first installment in her boy-wizard saga in summer 1997. What better way to mark this milestone than by screening each of the Potter film adaptations? Grab your broomsticks for a free screening of THE SORCERER’S STONE on July 29 — part of a daylong celebration marking the tenth anniversary of Film Streams’ Ruth Sokolof Theater. The seven films that followed will show throughout August, with a double feature of THE DEATHLY HALLOWS, Parts 1 & 2 on August 27.

The summer fun continues on September 2 with THE SANDLOT. Baseball, s’mores, treehouses, public pools, ghost stories, carnival rides, getting into and out of pickles: this 1993 epic bottles all the nostalgic magic it can into a beloved story about a new kid in town. The series will conclude with NAPPING PRINCESS, starting September 16. Kenji Kamiyama’s near-future anime adventure follows a young woman whose increasingly vivid dreams of warring machines might hint at family secrets.

Tickets for all films in the series are just $2.50 for children ages 12 and under
