Restrepo

Dir. Tim Hetherington & Sebastian Junger USA 93 min R

2010 National Geographic Entertainment

A feature-length documentary chronicling the deployment of a platoon of soldiers in Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley — considered one of the most dangerous postings in the U.S. military. The movie focuses on a remote 15-man outpost, Restrepo, named after a platoon medic killed in action. Co-directed by photographer Tim Hetherington and journalist Sebastian Junger (author of “The Perfect Storm” and “Fire”), RESTREPO is an entirely experiential film: the cameras never leave the valley; there are no interviews with the generals or diplomats. The only goal is to make viewers feel as if they have just been through a 90-minute deployment. This is war, full stop. The conclusions are up to you.

Join us on Thursday, September 16 at 7pm for a special screening and post-show panel discussion on the treatment of post-combat trauma and stress, presented in collaboration with Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska’s At Ease program and its lead sponsor At Ease USA.
